Phú Quốc Vietnam.

Got a good deal to go end of Feb next year and looks lovely ,but is there enough to keep me busy for two weeks , looks like it's fishing trips and fish sauce factory visits.
Food and beaches look fabulous, I just think a fortnight could be a bit to long.
Would the mainland be a better bet ?
Going with a girl so any love you long time or gary glitter replies are a bit redundant.

I reckon the best bet is go to the package holiday then grab a flight or boat for a few days elsewhere if it gets to boring .

Joe - thought there might have been issues with the 15 day tourist visa on arrival. It might be worth checking arrangements to get a different visa on arrival. Paperwork might be an issue, but nothing like as bad as it used to be,
However, assuming you're stuck in Vietnam, and with your missus being a fussy eater, then HCMC might have a few more eating options for her. Maybe also Vung Tau (used to have a tatty reputation, but not sure how it is now). Domestic flights are relatively cheap (if not Ryanair-cheap) so you might want to look at a side trip to Ha Long bay (Hai Phong, opposite end of the country) or Hue.
Personally I prefer Hanoi to HCMC (and whilst I like a day or two at a good beach resort, I tend to get bored after a couple of days on the beach - hence most of my suggestions being non-beach as a change). However, if you're in the far south then HCMC could be worth a few days.

If your aiming to have a really quiet 2 weeks it's great apart from the Vietnamese who will attempt to rip you off at every opportunity
Not many nightclubs etc it's a quietist island great boat trips fishing and site seeing
Just be careful you don't go during Tet double the price and it will be packed

It may have been Bleeding Claret who said it's not difficult to get Phu Quoc if you drop your anchor in Phu bay first.

We did a few days in Hanoi last year and then went to Cat Ba Island rather than doing a Ha Long bay tour. Great break. Fully recommend.
This year we're off to Cambodia. Siem Reap and then a week on the beach. Thinking of mixing between Snooky and Koh Rong Sanloem. Too soon to give Cambodia a shout but looking forward to it. Next year Myanmar!

Did trip there last feb. Ho Chi Minh (+ Mekong delta) to Hoi An to Hanoi (+ Ha Long Bay). No idea where Phu Quoc is but Had a great time.

I'm looking at our holiday for next year actually. It'll be a couple of (as yet undecided) capitals in Asia, followed by a fortnight on a beach somewhere paradisey.
Not entirely sure where to go for the beach part, which is where I hope you lot can help. In the region we've done beaches in Bali, Hoi An and Boracay. Ideally it'd be a country I haven't been to, but that only leaves Cambodia with a coast. Ngapali is Myanmar is winning at the moment.
Anyone got any brilliant beach recommendations that aren't in Thailand?

She isn't 'that' fussy , just plain grilled meat and chips will do . Spent a week in Egypt and all she ate was lamb chops and soup and bread.
My choice would be Palawan but we both wanted somewhere new.

Mashed , take the point hence staying in good hotels , just want a change from Jamacia//Mexico/Dominican Republic etc.
Intact she is going Mexico in January.
I'm going Dominican, Vietnam is somewhere neither of us have been.

I fail to see the appeal of traveling to even Europe with a fussy eater let alone somewhere like Vietnam.
Some excellent food out there.

If your missus is a fussy eater and that's likely to cause problems then those 2 weeks are probably better spent elsewhere. Vietnam is nowhere near as developed as Thailand (for example) and getting a burger/chips/pizza might be a serious struggle outside of an all inclusive (even in tourist/backpacker hot spots like Hoi An it's 99% local food).
Sounds like you'll probably end up spending all your time round the pool in your hotel bored out your nut and tbh there are much better cheaper and closer options for that.

Her diet is the issue , I eat almost anything.
Ray , had a romantic weekend in GREAT YARMOUTH a few weeks ago.
